Rebecca (Becky) and I met a lifetime ago at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Elizabethtown where my Dad was serving as Minister of Music. Becky’s dear Aunt Goldie and my Mom were great friends. While years passed, both of us experienced the highs and lows that life threw our way. Eventually, Rebecca was lead to this little slice of Heaven known as Manglillo Chiquito.
The beach of Manglillo Chiquito is literally (and I mean literally) a 5 minute walk from her front door. It is unspoiled and completely gorgeous. Imagine, waking up every morning and walking your dogs by the Caribbean Sea.
In the morning, we hiked, we paddleboarded, and we laughed. That afternoon, I got in my rental Kicks and headed to Cabo Rojo to see the famed Los Morrillos de Cabo Rojo (also known simply as Los Morrillos Lighthouse or “El Faro”). Afterwards, I grabbed a bite and drink at Annie’s Place, a restaurant located in the Playa El Combate / Combate area of Cabo Rojo.
In the late afternoon, I drove to La Parguera where I had booked the Bio Bay Parguera & Sunset Snorkel with Paradise Scuba & Snorkeling Center, is a family-run, PADI-certified dive shop. One of the most famous features of La Parguera is the bioluminescent bay, where microscopic organisms called dinoflagellates emit glowing light when disturbed — and it’s one of the few in Puerto Rico where swimming is allowed in the glowing waters. Trust me – if you get the chance to go, GO!
