Ethereal View, Cappucino Sips and Tarmac Zips: Sky Express and Our Journey to Corfu

If you happen to be traveling to Heraklion, Crete, I cannot recommend staying at Ethereal White Resort enough. It was comfortable, the staff was beyond caring and the breakfast was top notch. We had a long day of just waiting with our flight not leaving until evening. The staff at Ethereal made sure we were taken care of: offered us use of the rooftop pool, menu and spa services on the lower level. It made waiting much more sweet.

We did decide to venture out into the city one last time and found Black Honey Coffee where we had the best aćai bowls either of us had ever had. My freddo cappucino was going to give me the added caffeine boost I’d later need to get through the day.

The taxi arrived earlier than expected which was fine since we had to check-in at Sky Express for our connecting flight in Athens. If all roads lead to Rome, then all skies lead to Athen if you’re island hopping. Our flight was scheduled at 6:45 PM but was close to 40 min delayed which really put us in a time crunch to make our connection to Corfu. Note to readers: Avoid Sky Express if you have a connection. They are notoriously late. Aren’t you glad I found this out for you? 😅

Enter our wild ride…

So imagine…you’re in Greece flying from Crete to Athens to make a connection but your flight is 30 late and landing at the departure time of your next flight. As you deplane down the ladder to the tarmac, a Greek Joe Pesci in a safety vest yells at you to “Come here. You Corfu? Come here. Name? Yes. Boarding Pass? Yes. Ok you wait here.” And then you’re joined by 3 other people then rushed to a….wait for it….compact Fiat where you all cram in and zoom off to the Corfu plane. Zooming right behind was a tiny van with our luggage. We made the flight. Barely.

We arrived at Dreams Corfu Resort and Spa around 11PM and were tired and hungry. They greeted us with welcome drinks of Prosecco (at 11PM mind you…on empty stomachs) and we finally got to our bungalow. Think The White Lotus S2. That’s where we are…but on a teacher’s budget. 😆 At any rate, we’re thankful for time in Corfu to relax and enjoy the sun and water before returning home.
