From Athens to Crete

We said goodbye to Athens, Plaka and our flat at Momo Suites. Arriving at Athens International Airport, we stumbled our way to Sky Express and checked our bags. Imagine Frontier/Allegiant/Spirit and then divide by 2. That is Sky Express. I am 5’3 and I bumped my head on the ceiling getting into my seat. Word to the wise, pack lightly if you’re planning to island hop in Greece.

The airstrip for Heraklion Airport in Crete juts out into the water, so it felt as if we were landed literally on the water. Smaller airports have their merit. Less than an hour had passed between landing, shuttle to terminal, collecting our bags and getting our taxi. No notes.

The cab ride was an easy 15 minutes to our new home base of Ethereal White Resort in the heart of the city. I had been in contact with the concierge over the course of the last month. We were treated warmly and genuinely. This hotel (because it really is a hotel instead of a resort), is pristine and very tech heavy (which I love). Everything is summoned by a touchpad or control panel….and I mean everything. (I used the bathroom in the dark because I didn’t know what to click. 😅)

In the words of Helen Moxon-Cann, we were knackered and took a nap upon arrival. It was good to call my folks and retell the story of our rescue in Sounion. We also got to catch up with Paul and Adam. Good stuff.

Today, we will explore our new city, swim and take advantage of the “resort” side of our hotel.
