Never underestimate the influence of a teacher. When my daughter, Amelia, was in the fourth grade, her teacher read one of the top chapter books of the timeβ¦.Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. Having been a gen ed classroom teacher for a good bit, read alouds were some of my favorite times with my classes because it was a time to wind down, gather together, and just have a moment with my kids with no expectations. (Well, the only expectations was that I do all the voices.) Teacher friends, donβt skip over the read alouds because you never know the impact they will have.
That spring break, Amelia and I went to Nashville for a couple of days. Why? The Parthenon, duh. By the way, did you know there is a replica of the Parthenon in Centennial Park? Now, you do. Thanks, Tennessee. Fans of Percy Jackson may remember that one part of the quest was to retrieve a pearl from the giant statue of Athena housed in this fairly impressive Greek replica. (Spoiler, there is no pearl but there is a giant statue of Athena.)
βI wish we could go to the real Parthenon someday.β
βMaybe after you graduate college.β
