DAY 7

Exploring Norwich. Today had no real agenda at all, well..there were some things I wanted to do: mainly shopping, exploring and getting a pedicure. My BnB is located in central Norwich which has been a great location since I can walk everywhere here. It’s far enough away from businesses so as to feel private and quiet, but only a couple of blocks away from pubs, restaurants and shops. It really has been a perfect spot and has saved me with ground transportation. But, honestly, I don’t know how taxis would really get around so well anyway. Most of the streets with shops aren’t really made for vehicles (but that doesn’t stop them).

My host, Elisabetta, provided a collection of teas, coffees, muesli mix and a pint of skim milk. I have a decent mini-fridge, microwave and electric kettle…and I have been using the heck out of all of it! This has saved me from spending too much on sit down meals. Having little conveniences shops like Premiere and a super nice Marks & Spencer close by have made buying some individual takeaway, snacks and drinks easy. If H&M and Publix had a baby, it would be M&S.

Here’s a snapshot of the day:

  • Norwich Lanes – Just when I thought I couldn’t love this city any more, I find this. Ancient buildings and cobblestone streets that house some super quaint, sometimes quirky shops. Dotted along are also some well known UK companies like Jarrold’s (think high end Macy’s), Costa Coffee, White Stuff (looking at you, Helen), Joules…so many more! I could do another day here for sure. I kept thinking how much fun it would be to walk through here with Amelia, Amy and Mom. Loads of vintage, vinyl, jewelry and decor shops. And plenty of places to grab a bite or a coffee (or tea).
  • Surprise – After I’d wandered through quite a few shops, I made my way to Jarrold’s. I was about to pop in when all of a sudden a familiar face rushed out of the nearby Costa – it was Helen! What are the odds? Her stylist’s salon was not far from there and she’d just finished her appointment. I was so incredibly happy to see her one more time! It really made my day!
  • Charisma – Now, this was possibly something I could’ve skipped but after walking 14k+ steps a day since I’ve arrived, these dogs were barking. Also, I wasn’t able to get in at my usual nail salon before this trip, so it seemed like a good enough reason to take a little break. Now, let me tell you: this wasn’t like any pedicure I’ve had to date. I know some of you could care less, but there are some of us who really enjoy the occasional massage chair, hot water whirlpool and foot massage. This was good, but just different. Granted, I’m basing this on only one salon – maybe there are some here more like ours at home. I felt like I was in a really posh salon, though. So, maybe that explains it? All in all, it was a pleasant experience and the staff was incredibly friendly.
  • Five Guys – Throwing this in because, yes, I did have a cheeseburger and fries. Was I missing America? No, not really but I knew I could just get something familiar, sit, eat and catch up on my upcoming journey.
